The Founder

The founder of Sani United Sdn Bhd is Datuk Wan Mohammad Sani Salleh. He was born on Jan 24th 1976 at Kuala Ibai, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu and currently 38 years old and married. He was the forth among six siblings. He holds a Diploma in Business Management at Sunway College (1994) and then holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from Sunway College too in 1997. He is the Managing Director of Sani United Sdn Bhd (Sani Express Sdn Bhd, Sani Properties Sdn Bhd and Sani Hotels Sdn Bhd). 

Datuk Wan Mohammad Sani Salleh's achievement is conferred the Indera Mahkota Pahang (Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang, DIMP) which carries the title Datuk was given by Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah (June 2009) and the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award Malays Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (Anugerah Usahawan Cemerlang Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia, DPMM) Kuala Lumpur (April, 2009)




Here are some of his history background ;

1993 : After completing his secondary school at Sekolah Menengah Tengku Bariah Kuala Terengganu, Dato’ Sani decided to move to Kuala Lumpur.

1994 : Dato’ Sani pursue his education at Sunway College in Business Management and at the same time holds a part time job as an administrative assistant in shipping company.

1996 : After his graduation, he was offered a job as a shipping agent and his responsibilities includes managing the shipping traffic in Port Klang and Port Dickson.

1997 : Due to his commitment and perseverance, Dato’ Sani was promoted as a manager and he was responsible in managing tenders with Petronas, Caltex and Shell.

1998 : Dato’ Sani was promoted to sit on the Board of Director due to his continuing success in managing the company’s tenders and shipping management.

2000 : Dato’ Sani decided to quit the Board Of Director and pursue his dream in managing his own company.

2002 : Year 2002 proved to be the kick start of his business venture. The car service centre that he started in 2001 was awarded 2 contracts to handle MTD Group vehicle maintenance in Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Terengganu region. He then decided to open his own car service centre with his brother, Iskandar- Dato’ Salleh in Kuala Terengganu to concentrate on the MTD Group vehicle maintenance.

2003 : Sani United was incorporated with its hq in UkayPerdana, Selangor. With his small management team, they prepared a proposal to operate an intercity public transport (express bus) hence the establishment of Sani Express.

2006 : in 7th January, an express bus bearing the name of Sani Express made its maiden journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu.

An express bus company by name Sani Express which famous in black and red colors with nearly one million customers a year. Sani Express is the largest double decker bus operator in Malaysia by using high technologies system in providing services to the East and the North country. He has been asked the reason of his choosing the transport industry, Wan Mohammad Sani said, there are no other reason except that this sector were so challenging which requires a strong spirit because it was not easy, but also lot of risks need to be faced. However, he did not deny the difficulties that passes off as when Sani Express is currently the leader in express transportation in Malaysia.

"Whatever Sani Express in January 2006 there were on the road and thank God this business trip went smooth, well received and since then my business growing well," he said.

Sani proved "route" chosen were worthwhile, because only in three years Sani Express showed a remarkable achievement. On the beginning was an employee, Sani currently has 150 employees. From a small office in Ukay Perdana, Sani currently has his own firm personally bought and renovated at a cost in excess of RM 7 million.

A firm with three levels named Wisma Dato' Sani in Klang Sentral is fully equipped. In addition to being the center of operations, it was equipped hostels, training centers and surau. Most interesting, all operating at the ticket counter of Sani Express in each state directly monitored via closed circuit cameras that transmitted directly to the firm. According to Sani, other than interest, other success factor is his own attitude that he was not ashame to ask and learn something new from everyone.

"I'm not a very high schools. I learned from the experience, even with anyone. I learned with the bus driver, I learned from mechanics, even with people who have failed also because I learned that failure will make me learn and gain something. From there, we can share the knowledge, even until now I am still learning. I created my own analysis and studies, only now we can handle the new business well, "he said.

He said, though Sani Express is belong to himself, but he was still working as wage earners to ensure the company became the largest transportation company will be achieved someday.

'' I realize this dream difficult to achieve and I have no other way but to try, try and try, '' he said.

The red colored Sani Express bus services are known for their reliability and safety. WiFi or Wireless Fidelity on the bus has been introduced by the bus company such as Odyssey, which connects the bus trip between Malaysia and Singapore. Sani Express buses are also provided with Dax system which reminds drivers of over speeding as well as danger areas while driving. Drivers of Sani Express buses are selected after close scrutiny of their driving records and are well trained in safe driving. Sani Express driving is closely monitored by the Safety and Operations Department and any negligent driving if found, is suitably dealt with through counseling and warnings. There are steps implemented by Sani Express in managing and recruiting the drivers where as:

Step 1 : Pre-interview by Branch Operation Officer - their Branch Operation Officer will interview a candidate who are qualified for the driver position.

Step 2 : Feedback by Branch Operation Officer - all feedback upon pre-interview will be submitted via report to HQ office and qualified candidate will be selected.

Step 3 : Checking Summons and Examine candidate background at previous company by Operation Dept / HRA - their Operation Dept and Human Resource will examine the selected candidate at the previous company and checking summons will be done accordingly.

Step 4 : Driving Test handled by Operation Department - candidate will do a driving test skill on handling bus on the road and to determine the efficiency on driving methods.

Step 5 : Interview and Overview of Job Scope, Work Procedure and "Driving Ethics Code(LPKP) by Top Management OPR / HRA -  selected candidate will be interview by COO / Manager and will be explained further on the Job Scope, Working Procedure and also overviewed of "Driving Ethics Code" by LPKP

Step 6 : Medical Treatment at Panel Clinic - candidate will be check up by their Panel Clinic for Medical Treatment on urine, ecg, blood pressure and etc. It is compulsary that all selected candidate must have an excellent health to become a bus driver.

Step 7 : Accepted an Offer Letter - a successful candidate then will be offering a job as a Full time driver after all the above steps has been fulfilled.

Step 8 : Finally, their driver will be attending an induction session for safety by their SHE Manager. Here they will elaborate more on safety of buses, passenger and others related matter.

In addition, some of the users claimed that Sani Express have a comfortable seat with a functional air-conditioner. There are television and switch provided but both of it were not functioning. Moreover, the driver was driving well during the whole journey and sociable. But it is forgiveble because the bus was late for an hour.
